Nawab (age 12) and his friend Jabar make glue by boiling scraps of leather that they scavenged from debris, in Dhaka District of Bangladesh. The work – which exposes them to a myriad toxic chemicals – earns each boy about 60 taka (approximately US$0.88) for each 13-hour shift. They are among nearly 215 million children involved in labour worldwide, of whom nearly 115 million work in hazardous conditions.

Thank you. This is why I never really pursued higher education although I want it so desperately. This is no way to run a country.

Everyone needs to see this! Germany also has free higher education so long as you make very good grades. As well as the other Nordic countries, Germany has a high tax also. I really wonder why this is such a big deal in America. The rich keep getting richer and the poor, as well as middle class, keep getting poorer.

I think the time has come to take more of an interest in the social (global social -the Politics tag seems so heavily based on US government so I don’t check it), commentary posts on Tumblr…. does anyone have any blog recommendations along this line?
