Marina Abramović - The Artist Is Present: This emotional exhibit, held in the Museum of Modern Art for three months in early spring 2010, featured Abramović sitting in a chair for the entirety of the day at the museum. Visitors were encouraged to sit silently across from the artist for a duration of their choosing, becoming participants in the artwork. Abramović, acting as an “emotional mirror” to the patrons, silently stared at them, often inducing deeply profound and heartbreaking reactions.

actegratuit:

Edouard Martinet transforms everyday objects found in flea-markets and car boot sales into works of art. Working with a variety of refuse materials such as rusted kitchen pans, typewriter keys, car lights and other scrap metals, Edouard Martinet sculpts several types of animals and insects. His sculptures are made without the use of solder.

Portraits taken at Marina Abramović’s ‘The Artist Is Present’ performance art exhibit, by Marco Anelli

To read more about the exhibit see this post

I get what this so-called art is trying to portray, or to tell the viewers. I see the depth of this ‘art’, but I highly doubt it as an Art. I’ve seen better ways and artistic skills to get this message across. And do we really need a high-profile artist and pay the entrance fee (that is if there really is an entrance fee) to realize what we’ve been missing all along? The things and moments we ignore everyday? To realize life itself?

If the artist isn’t famous, will they still go to see this? I can sit in a public place with my friend, trying to connect with her without the distraction of anything. Will people pay me too? Hehe

Anyway, you can’t make Snape cry. Only Lily can make him cry. Ok, that’s my hp fanatic side talking.

Interesting comments :) I listened to a good podcast this morning called ‘No More Secrets’ (by Michael Persinger), about how we are ‘connecting’, sharing information, all the time without realising it, and how it might actually be possible to do this to a much larger extent in the future…
