DICE PORTRAIT

This amazing modern art idea is dedicated to artist and designer Tobias Wong who passed away May 30, 2010, at the age of 35, after living 13,138 days. His friend Frederick McSwain built this commemorative portrait using exactly 13,138 dice to emphasize on life and its hazards. “The idea of a dice itself was appropriate—the randomness of life. It felt like [a medium] he would use. Because [Tobias] was a very street-level force, I thought it was appropriate [to install] the portrait on the floor. Its not something I wanted to suspend on the wall; I wanted it to be right there on the floor where you almost interact with it. The idea of every decision you make and everything you’ve done in your life, defines who you are. All of those days symbolically makes up the image of Tobi.”- Frederick stated. The dice were simply laid out on the floor without using any kind of adhesive.  – (via – FRESHOME)

For my friend Pablo who was one of Tobi’s closet friends and misses him very much.

Ernesto Neto: crazy huperculture in the vertigo of the world

brazilian artist Erneto Neto has created ‘crazy hyperculture in the vertigo of the world’. neto has created a insulated, suspended labyrinth covers the entirety of the space. the tactile installation is one in which the gallery goer enters the sculpture, walking from the entrance of the ground floor to the sky-path the artist created. strung through out the membrane are small satchels containing spices of various color and scent, further engaging the viewer with the interactive sculpture. the work is formed with the ideals of neo-concreto, ‘places the spectator at the center of creative action’ concept in mind, engaging many of the viewer’s senses in order for the individual to fully comprehend the piece.
‘crazy hyperculture in the vertigo of the world’ was developed for installation at faena arts center, in buenos aires, argentina.

drawingadrawing:

I’ve started an exciting new kickstarter project where I will draw a daily graphite portrait drawing for a year and allow fans the opportunity to be one of “days” in the 365 days! The goal is to raise enough funds so that I can create a tutorial video illustrating my unique painting process. Those who get their portrait done automatically get a DVD copy of the tutorial! :)

To pledge to be one of the days visit www.DrawingADrawing.com

To see more of my artwork visit www.Michael-Shapcott.com

THANK YOU!!!
